I've heard from a few local contesters in the past two days who claim that
the K3 isn't one of the better ssb contesting radios based on just a little
time with the radio. I couldn't disagree more with that. I spent a lot of
time tuning into the most crowded parts of 20M and I was able to distinctly
copy layer after layer of stations on top of one another. My other radios'
receivers would mostly turn to indistinguishable mush in that situation,
although the Orion did better than the Yaesus. I also spent much time
carefully adjusting the K3's shift/width for the best combination of narrow
selectivity and intelligibiity.

What worked for me was 1.8Khz filters, 1.6Khz width, 0.95Khz FC (shift), AGC
SLP 3 (important not to use too much AGC compression), AGC THR 8. When I'm
not contesting, I turn AGC SLP to a higher value. I used flat RX EQ. On
the transmit side, I used CMP at 23.
