Good Evening,
Twenty meters was pretty good and forty meters was noisy but not too bad either. Actually forty meters was not as loud as I have heard it. I just went outside to cool down. The temperature is going up outside in preparation for the next storm so the fire is putting out more heat than necessary. I did not hear Sam complain though. I think he is in a daze lying next to the stove in his box. I don't think there is a way to get him too hot short of him walking in to the stove while I am stoking it. Normally he is wandering around looking for food at that point so there is no danger. He gets anxious when I move the wood near his head. I have never dropped anything on him so I think he is just a flighty cat :) If he could only talk...
I had at least four QRP contacts tonight so the bands were not that bad. I have not heard Ray in quite some time. I think being a grandfather is cutting into his radio time ;) Ron was being attacked by QSB during his 40 meter QNI but I got him logged. The toughest catch seemed to be Dale in Wyoming. Normally he has a good signal. Maybe he is in the midst of antenna work and we caught him with his doublets down. He is anxious for the Fox Hunt to begin. The winter hunt has not yet been announced but the hounds are baying in their cages. I think I have the correct rig for Dick. He has so many it is hard to keep track of them all. I know he has a new K3 but I am pretty sure he told Tom he was running a K2. So I picked the last one I have listed in my files. I know he has sold 3900 for some reason; maybe it was to fund the K3 purchase. That would be very hard to do for me. How could I sell my K2? It would be worse than selling my first born :) We have been through a lot together and the memories alone make me keep it. There are a few scratches and worn spots but it has been on many camping trips with me. Deserts, mountains, beaches, rivers, and lakes - it has worked in many places and done a very fine job. It has also worked these nets for many years. I reiterate: how could I sell it? Maybe I should just write it into my will and have it burned with me :) Kind of like a Viking and his ship!

I hope the above lists are error free. If not please send the corrections to me via email. Thank you for so many years of fun. I am sorry my hands are not working as well as they could but I have cut and split a lot of wood. That takes its toll on fine motor control. And then there is the roofing and all the slivers from both activities. Winter will be a good time for them to heal as I work on the computer and with my soldering iron. Now that the roof is tight and the wood piles are well stacked I intend to get snowed in and enjoy my solitude. Sam and I will be cozy and warm. The radios will be ready for those times when I need to chat with someone. As long as the antennas don't get blown away I can always call CQ and find someone. Its kind of like a lottery: you never know where your signal will land and who you get to meet.
Until next week stay well,
73,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
