[Elecraft] External speakers?

I took Tom's (N0SS) advice and found some speakers from the two- way communication industry for my K3.  They were not Motorola, but they are Midland speakers.  They are 4 ohm - 4" - speakers.  What was great also was the fact they were free.  The Midland speakers have very similar specifications to the Motorola speakers.  They are un-amplified as well.

I tried stereo speakers from Radio Shack - Optima.  I tried four types of "computer" speakers - Jensen - Creative Lab - LabTec - Sony.  When I put on the communication type speakers - Midland/Motorola - I new what Tom was talking about.  Very clear - crisp - and clean.  The Radio Shack speakers were way to bassy - the radio sounded muffled and there were very little highs.  The computer speakers did not have any base at all.  They sounded "tinny."

I know all the audiophiles out there will get a kick out of the next comment, but after looking at all these speakers, I did some research about the "science" of speakers using the internet.  Wow!  There is a lot of "engineering" that goes into speakers and the enclosures, way over the head of this Liberal Arts Major.  But, it was interesting reading and I got through about half of the math.

In our day and age it seems that Common Sense is in short supply. If you don't have any Common Sense - get some Common Sense and use it. If you can't find any Common Sense, ask for help from somebody who has some Common Sense. Is Common Sense divine?

External speakers?
I would like to use two external speakers with my K3 setting them up one on each side of the radio. Has anyone found something that somewhat matches in color and size to the K3 and has a good sound?  Seems like Kenwood used to make a smaller speaker that might work. Would like to hear from anyone who has a similar setup.

Thanks

Tim
