Actually it IS approved by Elecraft as described in the Owner's Manual

They even supply the Allen wrenches needed for the knobs with your K3.

Maybe just loosen the setscrew and move the knob away from the panel 
for a bit more hand clearance? (This mod probably not approved by 
Elecraft ;-) )
