Like John W2XS I went with the 500 & 200 Hz filters. In CQ WPX CW
I could slowly tune up 20M and work the European stations in between the
loud east coast stations - it was like they were not there. Very
impressive!
And no ringing. I have not cranked the width down to 50 Hz, but the times
that I did were pretty effective.
I had a 1.8 filter that I thought was going to be good for SSB and OK for
CW. I didn't like it on SSB and it was too wide on CW - stations 1 KHz
away would nail the AGC, so I traded it for a 1.0 filter.
So .... for CW I believe that the 1.0, 500, 200 is an excellent combination,
although I have not had the chance to use the 8 pole narrow CW filters if
one is to believe the numbers that W4ZV, W4TV, and others have come
up with comparing the 5 and 8 pole filters, it doesn't appear that there is
a
whole lot of difference between them. At least not to the average human
ear!
That's how I see it here in the woods in MI!
