[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report for November 24th, 2008

Good Evening,
   QSB was the order of the evening.  Twenty meters had it so bad I thought I had an intermittent short in my headphones.  When I was listening to Tom his signal jumped up and down in a click-like manner instead of the normal warble of QSB.  On forty meters the QSB was more regular but still caused some difficulties.  However we worked a good number of you.  Yes, Dale I heard you calling Tom but you never heard me calling you.  The 'rules' for getting logged into this net are rather lax :)  Once I copy your call there is no way you are getting out of it!  We had a couple new guests and two who changed their calls recently and just seemed like they were new folks.  Oh, there was Steve who somehow got another character appended to his call so he was flying under rogue colors too.  That got straightened out in the exchange so everyone was happy.  
   From the reports we got it looks like Thanksgiving will be chilly around the country.  Now that they play football in indoor, heated, southern stadiums it is just not the same game.  Where are the snow blowers and the short cleats for frozen fields?  Guess I am just from another era when games were played in blizzard conditions for championship games.  Passing was not considered because the ball was so hard it would just bounce out of numb fingers.  Oh well, life goes on and things change.  Kind of like the ARES meeting I attended yesterday.  All the digital modes were considered but no one spoke of HF, CW, or even any type of voice mode.  Seemed strange to ignore the basics when engaged in an ECOM discussion where anything and everything could be broken by a windstorm, flood, or earthquake.  But we who do use the old ways will get the message through once we can toss a wire into a tree after the shaking has ceased.

Weather here has been sunny sporadically all week allowing me to work inside when it is inclement and outside when it is not.  My 'emergency' woodpile is stocked and I have more than I need for this winter.  That is a very good feeling!  I must be getting lazy when I build a woodpile so close to the house I won't even have to get off the deck to bring in the wood :)
