[Elecraft] K3 Frozen

Almost all instances of this issue are due to a cabling problem, either
disconnected cable, marginally connected cable, USB to Serial Adapter
suddenly gone bad, serial cable suddenly gone bad, or trying to use a COM
port that isn't connected to the K3.

Unplug and replug the cable on both ends and make sure that it's fastened
securely. Turn the K3 power off (which may require pulling the power
connector from the K3) and then repower the K3 and turn it on. Restart the
K3 Utility to reduce the possibility that the K3 Utility is remembering some
old bad state. Then use the K3 Utility's "Test Communications" button on
the Port Tab.

There are three possible results. If your K3 is in "MCU LD" state, there are
two possible results. No communications at all, or a warning that you're
connected to a K3 that needs boot loader.
If you can't get any communications, try a different cable and/or a
different computer.

I regularly test loading firmware into a K3 in exactly this state.

Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Frozen

My K3 is frozen after attempting to load the latest firmware. The red
TX LED is blinking and the display reads "MCU LD" with no back
lighting. No buttons respond, and removing and reapplying power
brings back the same frozen state. I have searched previous emails on
this reflector, and have found no workable solutions. Any ideas?

The K3 communicated OK with the computer prior to attempting the
firmware update.
