Hi Terry:
 
There's an application note that discusses how to get to the nuts
holding that panel as part of making a modification to the K3's AF
amplifier. 
 
It was released a couple of  months  ago but searching all over the
place I cannot find it on the Elecraft Web site. 
 
I'll send you a copy directly.
