[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report for November 10, 2008

Good Evening,
   The time change effected how well the nets worked this evening.  The twenty meter net seemed much quieter, like there was cotton in my headphones.  I could not hear many people calling.  The forty meter net was a little easier but only because Tom could work many stations.  I could hear them enough to copy call signs but I could not have worked them directly.  Yes, my antennas are still up, I just checked!  It may be the very heavy fog I am in right now.  Yesterday I hiked up the mountain about half a mile away and found I was so deep in a cloud I could not see from one side of the road to the other.  I am very glad I did not drive!  Since there are no lines on a gravel road it would have been treacherous.  The logging company clear cut that area and there is a dropoff which is about 600 feet.  Nice view on a clear day because once you get past the lower road it drops down another thousand feet.  Toward the east you can see all the way into the valley 2200 feet below.  Great place to watch fireworks.
   This morning I took a walk on the drier parts of the property; those with the deer and elk trails.  There is one trail which is so well used it may as well be a highway because it is 18 inches wide and deeply cut.  It provides a nice level walking surface and I only have to duck once in a while to avoid the very wet limbs.  It has been raining steadily and often torrentially for the last ten days.  It went from warm and dry to cold and wet to warm and wet.  It is difficult to regulate the wood stove when the outside temperature varies so much in one day.  It has gotten to 80 degrees in the kitchen more than once.  I am down to my t-shirt and go out onto the deck in the rain to cool off!  Since there is not much wind I cannot open a window without filling the house with smoke so I do the best I can.  Sam moves around to find cooler spots to sleep but he is difficult to see when he is lying where I walk.  A dark grey cat in the shadows :)

   I did hear Dan send a serial number but I was not able to copy it.  Hopefully I got it right from my previously entered data.  But, maybe he purchased a new K3 and was checking it in for the very first time.  Since he is behind two ranges of mountains from me he was not easy copy.  However, NM7N and KC7OTG were not hard to follow.  Strangely enough Karl was on 20 meters when he checked with Tom from Beaverton.  Our difference in take off angles creates a problem; I can hear him well but I shoot right over the top of him.  Once again, if there are in errors in the lists please send me the corrections via email.
