[Elecraft] K3: General Tip

I get a lot of private emails asking about the "right" setting for this
control or that one.

The best way to find out is to experiment. I hate to use words that
sound like smoke and mirrors, but psycho-acoustics plays a huge role in
communications, especially by radio where there aren't visual cues to help.

One person's delight is another person's distortion. Some like a lot of
SSB compression; others can't stand the sound. Some like QSK; others
are distracted or fatigued by it.

I like to suggest that folks go to the CONFIG menu and work through each
entry. Tap DISP for the built-in HELP text. Unless it is a
calibration thing (like filter settings or VCO CAL!) change it and then
use the radio and see what the change does.

A few hours invested in this sort of exploration can really pay off when
the rare station comes up and the adrenalin starts flowing!

PS - don't stop at the CONFIG menu!!!
