Hello,
Today I had a great time even though I had to go into work.
I stopped in at work around 6:15 AM and headed to the Appalachian Trail.
I arrived at the parking area around 6:55 AM. It was a short hike that I had
to make, less than a mile. I got to my site and setup the antenna at the
water's edge. Started calling CQ on 40 m around 7:22 AM. I finally made a
QSO at 7:34 AM.
I made a total of 5 QSO's on 40m and 1 QSO on 30m. I called CQ on 20m but I
did not hear any return signals.
I had a great time making the 6 QSO's during the morning. During one QSO I
was watching a chipmunk run towards me from my right side. He ran right up
to me and stopped under my leg. He looked at me and took off to the left. I
started laughing so hard I could not copy what the station in ME was sending
me.
It started to rain around 9:30 AM so I packed up and hiked to my car. Then
the sun came out and the rain stopped. I decided to drive back to work and
finish what I needed to do. 2 minutes later the rain started to come down
very hard.
While I was operating on HF I was watching the wild life in the area. The
pond is full of frogs and turtles. There was an area that was black in the
water. To my surprise it was tadpoles, must have been about 500 of them in
the water near the shore line.
It was another fun day out on the Appalachian trail. 946 QSO's from the AT.
I have to work on Friday for 2 hours, I might go in real early and head back
to the AT to make some more QSO's before the CW contest this weekend.
I might go out on the AT on the 26th, not sure at this time. I will let
everyone
know.
72 and Thanks,
Ron Polityka
