Roy. What do you have TX ALC set to. It should be ON.

Subject: [Elecraft] Transmit Gain
TX GN in the CONFIG menu first showed Pr80 32. After re-doing the High
Power (50W) TX Gain Calibration the TX GN entry now shows Pr80 35. This
entry updates itself. Is it possible that a firmware update could affect TX
GN? The TX GN entry in a new kit built K3 that had not been TX Gain
calibrated showed 81 without the preceding Pr and without the number in the
thirties after the 81. I don't know the significance of this. All I know
is that I still have low (half the peak power or less) SSB transmit gain.
It takes 28 watts in tune to develop 1 Kw on my Alpha 99 (which has a peak
reading meter), and it takes 70 watts to develop this same output on SSB. I
am well aware of the difference between average and peak readings and how
they are derived. The solution to this problem does not lie there. My Omni
VII does not require additional power in the SSB mode to obtain 1 KW after
the power has been set for linear tune-up. I hope this can be corrected in
a future firmware upgrade. Roy Morris W4WFB K3 #323
