John
I had a similar problem with my mobile mic.
Where the cable comes out of the mike plug,
I put several layers of heat shrink tubing to
make a boot of sorts. The inner tubing piece
was longest, thenext a bit shorter, and the last
shorter yet. This made a supportive but
flexible boot on the cable and prevented a
lot of trouble. I did not heat treat the shrink
tubing, but left it as it came from the box.
