Hi RC,
You are actually asking two questions:
1) What "hardware" do you get?
2) What "functionality" does the firmware provide?
A good place to find a high-level answer to the "hardware" question is
to visit Elecraft's ordering webpage ...
http://www.elecraft.com/elecraft_prod_list.htm#k3
... and simply observe what optional modules are available. Very briefly,
the hardware that doesn't come with the base K3 includes:
o ATU module
o Sub-Receiver (which includes a second identical RX plus a second DSP)
o 100 W PA module
o Ten optional roofing filters (the base K3 includes a 5-pole 2.7 kHz
filter; both the main and sub-RX can each hold five roofing filters)
o General Coverage BPF module (both the main RX and the sub RX can accept
one)
o Transverter Interface With RX Antenna I/O module
o An optional five times higher accuracy TXCO
o Digital Voice Recorder (will eventually have firmware support for vision
impaired operators)
Another excellent way to appreciate what hardware you get is to read the
K3 assembly manual. See ...

The answer to the "functionality" question is a moving target since
Wayne continues to add features to the firmware. As I don't yet have my K3,
I'm not in a position to provide details on this subject.
BTW, an excellent resource describing the current firmware functionality
is the product review that will appear in the April issue of QST. You can
see it now on Elecraft's website at ...

A second resource is the K2 operators manual. See ...
