Rosin flux (the ONLY kind that should be used in any Elecraft rig) might
darken slightly with age, but it is *not* at all corrosive once your solder
joint cools, no matter how many decades it's left on the joint. That's the
main advantage of rosin flux that continues to make it the preferred flux
for all hand soldering.
GC Electronics sells bottles of rosin flux with a built in brush applicator
that is ideal for this sort of thing (GC # 10-4202, www.gcelectronics.com).
A small dab where you want to solder will take care of almost any oil or
oxidation. I use it a lot when working with SMDs to prepare the pc board
pads for parts. The 2 fl oz (59 ml) bottle will last for many of years of
normal work. Small flux pens are also available from other sources such as
circuit specialists and others.
