Thanks Bill,

I have an LP-PAN coming.

Assuming LP_Bridge comes along to allow PowerDSR to
control K3 - is there some great benefit over HRD?

Any benefit?

I have used PowerSDR a small amount with softrock and
then switched over to Rocky.

Also, I just read my QST last night, it has a review
on Flex 5000.

Read the ending paragraphs "is Flex for you?"

It indicates that association with the PC is mandatory
from the start and if you enjoy such things,
Flex could be your Nirvana.

K3 allows me to have a base radio, and then address
the computer association later,
if I want, and to the extent of my interest. It's also
instant on.

I consider these pluses, Ymmv, etc... ;-)

HRD is primarily rig control and PowerSDR is a DSP
program for SDRs. WU2X
wrote a version of PowerSDR-IF that will operate on
the K3's IF via LP-PAN.
However it requires HRD for rig control, so you
actually run both
simultaneously. Eventually N8LP will publish
LP-Bridge which will allow
PowerSDR to directly control the K3.

For background on the LP-PAN:

To run any of the SDR programs (PowerSDR, CW Skimmer,
Winrad) on the K3, you
need the following:

KXV3 > LP-PAN > Sound Card > Computer > DSP software.

The specifics of the sound card and computer required
vary depending on the
speed and resolution needed.
