Jim,

It could be either the computer (and serial adapter), or it could be the 
K2 itself.
The best way to proceed is to check using the simplest configuration - 
try the communications tests outlined in the KIO2 manual.  It would be 
best if you can try it with a computer having a real serial port.  If 
those tests are OK, then look to the computer and serial adapter.

Additional information - The K2 computer connection uses entirely 
different signals than the connections to your KAT100.  The TXD and RXD 
signals are the only ones involved with the computer communications and 
the KAT100 does not use those signals at all - so the fact that the 
cable works with the KAT100 does not provide any useful information.

HRD is simply giving you a generic message that indicates that it could 
not connect.  Be certain the baud rate has not changed and the COM port 
is the same one assigned to your USB to serial adapter.
