In the ideal world yes. Unfortunately the bandplans do not reflect the
increase in interest in RTTY contests and the space they need. Hence the
spread of activity. I have always been a strong advocate of bandplans and
deplore out of bandplan operation in contests, but you have to be realistic.
As it happened there was no contest activity below 7020 this weekend and
plenty of space for QSOs down there. Don't do RTTY or other data here but am
a keen QRP operator and get great results in contests as well. Well meaning
though they are, contest gripers do little to help our hobby.
