[Elecraft] K3 Filter Bandwidth Menu Choices

The natural approach to setting the roofing filter bandwidths in the menu is
to match the setting to the actual filter. I don't think that is the best
use of the roofing filter. I want the narrow roofing filter to kick in a
little earlier than the matching DSP setting.
I have set the filter 2 (actual bandwidth to 500hz) bandwidth to 1.00 in the
menu. That way the narrow roofing filter kicks in when you dial the
bandwidth down to below 1khz instead of waiting until you get below 500hz to kick
in.
You get the benefit of the narrow roofing filter without being so narrow in
the DSP that you can't hear someone a little off frequency. If that seems
too wide, you could set the roofing filter to kick in at 750hz. Again, the
beauty of the K3 is versatility.
I can see a similar use in SSB where you would want a narrower roofing
filter than the DSP setting. You cut down on the crud but the skirts of the
roofing filter are wide enough, you don't lose much fidelity. You could easily
listen through a 1.8khz roofer with the DSP at 2.1khz.
