I'm not too familiar with 80m propagation as I have only just got going on
the band (and only now with a loaded dipole zig-zagged into the loft) but my
experience so far suggests that propagation is better at night time. I
didn't hear anyone south of Dave. If my antenna isn't enough of a
disadvantage, I have the entire Lake District mountains between me and the
rest of England, which certainly doesn't help.

If anyone wanted to try a contact at 2230 local mid-week, I'd be interested
to participate. I've had contacts further south at that time of night. I'm
not going to be the initiator though because with my antenna not everyone
will hear me, and I may not hear them either with the high level of QRN on
that band. Most people on 80 in the evening seem to be running 400W, which
is never going to be an option for me with indoor antennas.

The frequency Dave picked, 3630, is better for me because the Q of my
antenna is quite sharp and it's resonant at about 3600 so I can use it on
data modes and CW. The SWR at the top of 80 doesn't bear looking at.
