Good Evening,
The weather has turned summer-like this week. Down in the valleys it has gotten over 100 degrees. Up here it got to 90 at least once. In my shack right now it is 85. Luckily the thimbleberries are coming in nicely. I am taking advantage of that by eating as many as the birds will let me. Quite tasty! With the temperature going up the fire danger is increasing. However, with all of the clearcuts nearby any fire I start will not spread; it will simply stop at the edge of my property through lack of fuel.
Twenty meters worked on and off this week; I could either hear pretty well or not at all. Forty meters? I've not had time to listen due to chores and errands. It has been a busy, hot week. It is due to break soon with a thunderstorm in the forecast. The rain will be nice. I hope the lightning does not start any fires. Tomorrow I will cover my desk with cloth so I don't stick to it and I will have a fan blowing on me. I don't know how cool that will keep me but it will feel better with a breeze.
Oh, forgot the results of my speed question from last week. The most comments were to keep things as they are. One wants me to run the net at 8 wpm. Another said it was too slow. I think those are statistical outliers ;) One idea was to send longer hail signs to allow the NCS to notice the sender's speed. I will, as always, slow to your pace. As in the past I do slow down as the pack thins out. Later check ins work more slowly than the initial contacts. Then, at the very end, while I am trying to get the last few before closing I send about as slow as I can go. My best advice for those who wish to check in to ECN is to follow along as best you can sensing the rhythm and procedures. Wait for the ? K and send your call at your comfortable speed. The NCS will respond in kind.

Please join us tomorrow evening.
