Lance,

>From my test here, any receiver capable of a 2.8 khz
passband will hear the K3 3.0khz ESSB signal as if it
were more like an AM signal, except that the AGC is
not held constant by a carrier (on the receive end).

That is to say it sounds a lot like Drake controlled
carrier AM to me. Or, like listening to an AM
shortwave broadcast with a SSB receiver.

An IC756Pro, 746Pro, Orion, Jupiter, Flex, all will
hear a significant increase in fidelty from K3 essb
transmit at 3khz as compared to standard K3 ssb at 2.7
khz.

My Drake R4C on the other hand has a strict 2.4 khz
SSB filter. To receivers like this, the OMNI C, K2,
and some others the band will still sound like it
always has (communications grade) even though there
might be some EESB stations transmitting.

I hope you have something wider than the 2.7 khz
filter coming, although 2.7 (from my tests) does a
fairly inpressive job of producing quality audio from
the K3 at 3khz essb.

I am very curious about this ESSB mode....I am getting
my K3 in a few weeks, and
wonder what it sounds like with a normal SSB receiver
using something like 2.8 KHz
filter. Does it sound better/worse/distorted? Or can
you hear no difference unless
you have a wider receive filter? Since most people
just have standard SSB filters, I
am curious to know if you can use the mode with
others, or only with ESSB-equipped
stations. TNX and VY 73, Lance
