Last year we flew from Portland (OR) to San Francisco, on to New York,
and then on to Frankfurt and Tel Aviv and return, with stopovers in each
city. I had my ICOM HT in my carry-on bag and was not questioned nor
detained through all the screenings, nor was I asked to take my shoes
off except in the US airports.
What they are looking for in the US appears to be illegal and dangerous
stuff like tubes of toothpaste and bottles of mouthwash as well as fresh
fruit or sandwiches with ketchup and mayonnaise - the really dangerous
stuff. I've been around real security screening at sensitive
installations and the airline security screening in the US is a joke.
The "foreigners" appear to know how to do it right and at much less of a
hassle to the travelers.
Next time I may even take my K2 with me.... <ggg>
