Don:

 Be sure to bring along ur owner's manual (fer the value of the photo of the on the cover).  Next be sure to have at some lite-weight headphones handy.  Also bring along along some small battery setup (9v shud do it) which you can plug in *only* if asked.  I wud stay away from any internal batteries until the thru security.
What I have just just suggested might well enable you to get thru security somewhere--if some agent asks you turn on your radio, etc., and you have long ago packed your larger battery in your checked luggage (g).

My understabnding of what they are looking for in checked baggage, using 
either dogs or instruments, is the extremely low-concentration outgassing from 
explosive materials. I don't think your KX-1 would trouble anyone in the 
least. MHOO, etc.
