And, you are right. I do not expect to see XP disappear into the 
abyss for the foreseeable future!

Direct from Microsoft (do a search there on Windows XP EOL). The EOL  
date for OEM's (those shipping XP on computers) is January 31, 2009.  
It will probably be extended beyond that. XP will be around and  
supported for quite some time to come.
