I'm slowly putting together a lightweight package that I hope to
take on some expeditions. My goal is to make it small enough that I can
carry-on a complete 100W station (less antennas). My latest addition is a
Gamma HPS-1a switching power supply which is 3.37" X 1.55" X 5.25" and
weighs 1.25 pounds. I'll configure my expedition version with a KAT3 (which
I don't need here at home due to resonant antennas and/or driving the tuned
input of my amp). Add my old Heil BM-10 headset and a lightweight paddle
and I shouldn't be much over 10 pounds. My "amplifier" will be salt water
and the antenna knowledge I have in my head...plus some wire, a small length
of RG-8X and a soldering iron, which would probably be checked. My
expedition K3 would consist of:
K3/100
KAT3
KFL3A-500
I believe I can omit the KXV3 (for its RX ANT) since I can configure the
KAT3's ANT1/2 to use separate antennas in split mode for RX/TX (assuming its
isolation is good enough).
It's amazing what 100W will do from a good location on salt
water...even on the low bands. I hope to experience this myself in the
coming years.
