[1] I would make them give up the day job, start a two-man operation 
designing DIY radios for radio amateurs, a section of the population well 
known for being 'off with the fairies most of the time.

[2] Then I would make them design a radio which will take on anything the 
big Japanese corporations can design but at a fraction of the price.

[3] Finally they actually have to listen to the users.

Can there be any worse fate?
