[Elecraft] Another "K3 is coming question"

There was a story in these parts about a grass roots
startup company here in San Diego - it was in the late
70's or early eighties. They took so many advance
orders on the newest fully broadband design.
They didn't have a transceiver as advanced as the K3,
but the locals who invested in it believed it was the
radio of the future. By throwing their financial
support behind it, they secured their status as
visionaries - in addition to being placed on a list
for the first production transceivers.
These radios would also be trophies - monuments to
their forward thinking!
It was at about this stage (what Bill in NM described
as "sinews and muscles twitching in anticipation")
that the finances dropped out and those few
transceivers that existed would be the only ones that
ever made.
A good number of fellows lost their dough while at the
same time looking like something less than
visionaries. ;-)
Only now am I starting to get a sense of what they
went through on both sides of the transaction.
Having the confidence I do in Eric and Wayne makes
this just an amusing story. No whistling past the
graveyard here. The question is not whether or not the
radio comes, but whether it will be in a couple weeks
or a few weeks. I AM a visionary and WILL HAVE that
trophy on my desk. ;-)
Sometimes it's possible that some folks take the guy's
hard work and past successes for granted. In truth
it's probably a lot easier to mess up than to come out
on top.

The bulk of the great herd grows ever closer, and the
pack can sense the
nearness of their prey. The fittest of the males,
their nostrils flaring, their sinews and muscles
twitching in anticipation of the imminent kill, cannot
help but snarl and snap at each other in excitement
and frustration...
