That which sets these radios apart is their relative immunity to blocking and IMD.  That's a pleasure!  Their clean transmitting signal is a matter of pride for the operator.  

A few suggestions to the relatively less experienced contesters;

* compare yourself only to yourself and have fun.  Even the last place finisher in a marathon has a smile on their face!

* I can not speak for everyone else, but I can copy 60 wpm, and most QSO's are going to occur above 28 wpm.  Practice!

* I never, ever, reduce the passband below about 900 cycles.  I want to hear what's going on all around me, and i more or less copy all of them at once

* If the radio isn't being jammed by IMD/blocking I won't have any trouble copying both signals that are 50 cycles apart.  I am going to answer the caller who finishes first.

* dipoles are plenty in the sweepstakes, but high is nice

I just play any more, after 50 years of contesting, but sure had a good time!
