[Elecraft] The Human G5RV

That's great Dave. I've enjoyed researching the G5RV, looking for that
elusive "first article" that was (apparently) published in 1946. I've
enjoyed it because it's caused me to read a lot of his writing. Wonderful
letters of encouragement to Hams here in the USA as well as in his native
England. Wry humor about heavy things falling from the sky overhead in WWII
that put a "kink" in Ham activities. Overall there emerges an image of a
highly intelligent and generous Ham who cared greatly for those who shared
his interest in Amateur Radio. 

It's obvious that he supported and encouraged the evolution of his original
antenna over the years as the interests and materials available to builders
changed. In that regard, he was a lot like Wayne and Eric today, encouraging
builders and operators to explore ways to make their rigs better. And, as
new ideas that work well and have a broad appeal are found, they often
become a part of the basic design. In that way the G5RV antenna and the
Elecraft rigs are much the same and share the same strengths of cooperative
investigation and innovation, thanks to the very real human beings who stand
behind them. 

What a fitting antenna to hook onto one's Elecraft rig -

FIX when he louis was  in his winter home as CX5RV.Bert G2 FIX  told me that

louis varney had  found that with 102 foot top on 20 mtrs the impedence at
the 
bottom of 300 ohm  feeder was 50 ohms.Now i am only repeating what i was 
told.incidentally bert was  licenced in 1932 unfortunatly bert went silent
key a few 
years ago sadly  missed but i will never forget him,he was one of my
teachers
