[Elecraft] PSK with a K2

I'd like to use my K2 on PSK-31.
I have a microHAM USB Interface II that I've been using
with an IC-756 PRO II. I'm disappointed to learn that the
only microHAM interface cable offered for use with the K2
is configured for Kenwood microphone connections. Their
cables are beautifully built using custom-made cable, BTW.
Joe at microHAM says that the "Elecraft standard" is for a
Kenwood microphone and the cables are made for this
"standard". Whether this is the "Elecraft standard"or not is
beside the point. I have nine (!) Icom microphones, a Heil
desk set and two Heil head-sets, all configured for Icoms.
I have no Kenwood microphones and it seems "nuts" to
change my K2 to use a "Kenwood" cable.
I plan to build a simple audio in/out and PTT cable assembly
to connect the front panel microphone connector to the interface.
Are there any "gotcha's" I should be aware of? Is there a "better"
approach to enable PSK-31 with a K2?
The EA3BLQ/K2DI interface boards aren't an option for me.
It looks like a "kludge" hung off of two speaker bolts. Awful!
