[Elecraft] QEX article and K2

I've got a Z90, and the kit's not very difficult.  The display is too
big to fit into a EC-2 case.  The width and depth are OK, but it's not
high enough.  So, I fabricated a K2-like case from aluminum sheet,
using the little fastener blocks from Elecraft, and it looks good.
It's just about 1 1/2 K2's high, and otherwise matches.  I used the
side of the case for the main regulator heatsink.

I actually finished it in December before I went to VU7RG, but the
weather was too bad to paint it then, and I've got one more little hack to
add, that is, substituting a USB interface for the serial port.
It's actually working, but I have a bit more metal work to do to mount
the USB interface.  Then I'll paint it, and put up some photographs.

Jack has some images of the thing in bare aluminum.

But that'll have to wait until May-  I'm off on the N8S DXpedition
tomorrow and wil be back just in time to go to Visalia.

   I remember reading on this reflector that the spectrographic display  
   design (Pan-something) in a recent QEX article was designed with the  
   K2 in mind.
   I was wondering whether anyone has considered this to be a worthy  
   occupant of an EC2 cabinet (the large one).
   Has anyone homebrewed this device?

   I think it comes as a kit but from what I recall from the article, it  
   seemed to be above my head as I am a pre-computer oldie/newbie or  
   whatever.

   Sure would give Icom a run for the money to have a K2 with a spectrum  
   display.

   Any thoughts?
