A lot ops simply used a split-ring lock washer under the thumbscrew. It does
leave a mark on the soft aluminum housing, but it's hidden under the screw
in any case.

Blue Locktite is not permanent, that should do the trick.

Any ideas on keeping the paddle screw tight?

Mine seems to work loose easily, Locktite or similar
would work but I want to remove it.
