Not how mine works, or as it is intended to work.  This doesn't fit in 
with any fan mode offered in the menu.

Noisy, yes, distracting, yes, however, when the heatsink cools to the 
threshold temp mine shuts off as described in the manual.  External 
fans have been discussed at length for extended operation with the 
upside that the noisy little - your word(s) - doesn't even come on.
