[Elecraft] K2 antenna Coax assembly

One thing to be aware of is that if you're using the bail to hold the front
of the K2 up at an angle, many of the adapters will hit the table in back
because of how close the BNC is to the bottom of the K2 back panel. One
solution is to add a BNC right-angle adapter ahead of it.

Of course, there's one simple solution: add the Elecraft KPA100 module. It
comes equipped with an SO239 connector all ready to go. At $389 it's not a
cheap adapter, but you get a 100 watt 160-10 meter amplifier thrown in for
free.

Seriously, this issue of "which connector" is a pain that shows no sign of
getting better. BNC's are quick and easy to work with and will handle the
legal limit easily but a pain to use with larger-diameter coaxial cable. And
then there are all the variations such as Type N as well as gender
combinations.

Over the years I've acquired well over $100 of adapters just to deal with
all the various options I encounter. I've always found that a good quality
adapter costs much less than a cheap one; I've still got some Amphenol
adapters I bought in the 1950's, but I can't tell you how many cheap ones
from various manufacturers I've purchased over the years and thrown away
because they developed an intermittent or even became open inside. It's a
real "downer" to spend an hour or so troubleshooting a problem with an
apparently bad cable only to finally discover it's a flaky adapter at one
end instead!

Dennis, there's BNC->SO-239 plugs widely available, you can pick one up at
your local Radio Shack...
