Good Evening,
Those were two very good nets. The first had three NCS folks working
as did the second. That really helped gather folks who've not been able
to work me directly. Thank you Bill, Mike, and Tom; you were a great help
to us all. The propagation needs to be thanked too. K6PJV cleaned my
ears most thoroughly with his 100 watt signal. When he turned it down to
three watts he more bearable ;) I am sure we could have worked if he had
been able to drop the power into the milliwatt range. Normally I need a
relay to him because he is too close. But that was also shattered this
evening when I worked NM7N (lately known as N7NLU) in Beaverton on twenty
meters. Normally we have to use forty meters and then are just barely
able to copy one another. Dale thinks the rain made the RF more
slippery. Who am I to differ?
It was nice to hear all you folks out there. The hail signs are
working admirably as is letting the folks out east work first. Best of
all is the NCS help I am getting. If W0NTA had not have been sleeping for
part of the twenty meter net I am sure he would have been tapped too ;)
Normally it is too chilly in my shack to sleep unless I am under the
covers. One of these days I just may get all the cracks chinked and I too
will be able to snooze in a chair. Sam will like that since he and Ms. P
used to hang out on the couch together as she studied.

I enjoyed myself this evening and got a good workout. I have yet to be
skunked while running ECN. There have been times when I thought it may
happen but there was always someone to keep me company. Propagation seems
to make little difference unless there is a full blown solar storm under
way. Then just wait a few hours and the bands are great. What will it be
like in two or three years? Good thing we are practicing a few procedures
to break the pileups. Only once this evening did I hear a howl of check
ins.
As ever, if there are any errors in the above lists please email me and
I'll fix the database. Now that the email computer is in the coldest room
of the house I don't check as often as I do in the warmer months of the
year. Hopefully by next winter the front room will be rebuilt so I can
have a couple more computers running close to the fire. Currently I have
just a couple up there and the rest of the network lives back here.
Please stay well and stay warm. I know there will be a lot of snow to
contend with in various parts of the continent. Drive carefully since
there are crazy folks out there who think an SUV with 4WD makes them
invincible. Funny thing about that, one slippery corner and their vehicle
seems to go into the ditch. I have found 4WD just gets me more stuck if I
don't use the experience earned by 40 years of driving in the snow.
73,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
