[Elecraft] Microphone preamp and Heils

Never did get a clear answer on this.  If I wire the K2 up for the 
Kenwood, and I have a Heil Pro Headset with the Kenwood adapter, I will 
be good to go?

Curious, why did they stop making the Elecraft associated mike?  Was it 
plastic or metal?
