Tom,

Is one end of the white plastic free to move upward?  If so, you do not have
the clear plastic sheet.
That 'plastic sheet' can be as simple as a piece of clear tape used to hold
the end of the white plastic in place during packing and shipping.

If it is not present, just install the backlight and don't worry about it.
