[Elecraft] not the UPS after all

Yesterday I remarked about a grid power failure that resulted in K2 receiver
hash once the power came back. I had mentioned that, when I unplugged a
nearby UPS (used with my computer, not with the K2), the hash
disappeared, and when I plugged the UPS back in, the hash returned,
leading me to conclude that the UPS had been damaged by the power
failure. So I proceeded to unplug the loads from the UPS, in order to remove
the supposedly failed UPS. When I unplugged my computer from the UPS
(which of course was shut down, and which had not been running during the
power failure), the hash disappeared. And when I plugged the computer
back into the UPS, the hash returned. Then, totally mystified, I started up the
computer to see what would happen. Result: the hash disappeared, and did
not return when turning off the computer.
So, all is well, and I hope this makes for some interesting Saturday light
reading. However, understanding why this happened is beyond my ken...
Thanks to all who responded. Much appreciated.
