Dick,
It does sound like your filters (actually BFO settings) may need some TLC
and alignment. This is one of the problems with buying a used K2, one never
knows if the settings used by the previous owner were 'standard' or were
even correct in the first place.
The good news is that it can easily be corrected. You will need the counter
probe, so if you did not get one with your used K2, you will have to order
the probe kit from Elecraft.
I highly recommend using Spectrogram when aligning the filters - it gives
you a visual picture of the adjustment results. I have a complete K2 dial
calibration and filter alignment procedure on my website
http://w3fpr.qrpradio.com and the Elecraft website has several items on the
Builder's Resource page that will help you set up Spectrogram. The last
freeware version of Spectrogram is available for download at Tom Hammond's
website www.n0ss.net and is more than adequate for this task.
