My answers inline ...
>How do you manage the 'Local Oscillator Power Control'?
I configure to remain on at all times.
>And do you have the XVOVN (crystal oven)?
Yes
>Of the 3 power control options, which do you use (JP9, 1-2, 2-3, 4-5)?
JP9 pins 4-5. My K2+transverters are mostly dedicated to VHF+ work, and is
always turned on monitoring local SSB activity and weekly 2M and 1296 SSB/CW
nets. The power draw is so low it is not worth turning off. I assigned the
squelch to the PF1 button to keep things quite and listen for random local
stations. Pins 2-3 might better suit you if you only occasionally use your
K2.
>Do you have the oven?
Yes
>Does anyone find they need to leave the oven on all the time to achieve
>best stability?
Yes, mostly for reduced startup drift. The unit will create heat when you
start transmitting and get some drift. Especially important for digital
modes operation.
>If the XV144 is not used that often, would it be better to turn the crystal
>and the oven off when the XV144 is not in use?
I do not see any advantage to turning it off. My has stayed on its whole
life (had mine since they were first released, a couple years now). I use it
for rover & portable in VHF and Microwave contests also - temperature swings
are signifiicant in this usage. It doubles as a IF for my microwave
transverters with help from the KRC2 band decoder. There is a paper on my
web site for how I set up my portable contest station built around the K2.
It lists all the jumper positions and mods I used.
