If you truly feel that inserting an apostrophe midstream in a
word like "don't" is a pain in the neck, why not just wait until your
message is finished and tack on a bunch of apostrophes at the end. Then the

reader, if so inclined, can go back and insert them as necessary.

ROFL!!

Oh, is "ROFL" (rolling on the floor laughing) permitted? It is in my world
of e-mail!

Y'see there's formal and informal language, both written and spoken. A
shopping list, a note for my XYL or a letter to a friend is likely to be
written informally in style and usage.

So are my e-mails, unless it's a cover letter to a new publisher or someone
else I need to impress with proper prose.

One thing I'd *never* want to do is make someone who I want to correspond
with feel uncomfortable or insecure when expressing themselves. I want them
to feel free to experiment a bit with usage like to make the process more
conversational, fun and interesting ("Ain't it fun?" or even "Y'see" for
"You see" above).

Gee, already enough folks avoid contributing because they're afraid others
will disagree or criticize with what they say. I hope still others won't shy
away because they fear criticism how they say it!

I never want to make anyone the least bit concerned about their command of
English. It's the content that is important to me, not the writing
technique!
