  Because each carrier has a different protocol, there would have
  to be a wholesale switch to a single protocol.  This will
  revive the spitting contest of the early 1990s over which
  protocol is the best (more accurately which has the least
  shortcomings).

  Been there, done that, got the scars to prove it.
