Yes, set Beta and Decay each to 00 and listen to the effect. Cycle the
denoiser through all 4 levels((see page 25). Next, set Beta to 99 (just
decrease the setting by one and it will wrap around to 99). Listen
again to all four settings. This will give you a good feeling for the
effect of this parameter. Next, change Decay to 99, and listen.
Finally, change Beta back to 00 with Decay still at 99.
Now you will have an idea what each parameter does to the "wateriness"
as well as the amount of denoise, and how much it is affected by the
demoiser level. You can then adjust Beta, Decay and Level until you get
the best compromise between denoising and the artifacts that result from
the denoise operation.
In general, if a signal is strong, you'll just turn the denoiser off. If
it is really in the noise, you probably can't recover it. If it is
marginal, the denoiser comes into its own.
