[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report for September 24th & 25th, 2006

Howdy Folks,
    The bands were a little weaker than I expected but we had a good number  
of checkins anyway.  We also had some chilly weather reports from the  
heartland.  Seems like the nasty, icky, rainy weather we experienced last  
week in Portland has been travelling slowly eastward.  The good news?  The  
weather was quite pleasant Friday, Saturday, and again today so you all  
will warm up and dry out within a day or two.  No, I am not a professional  
weather forecaster, but I cannot do much worse :)
    There was a little QSB on stations east of the Mississippi on twenty  
meters.  On forty the QSB was most consistent.  All I had to do was wait a  
little while and the signals would pop out.  Rarely did it get so deep as  
to miss a letter but there were times when it grew dicey.  Good thing  
human language is redundant.  If we used computer language to communicate  
we'd all be in trouble!  But that is my day job.  Fighting with languages  
which are so exact you need to do their thinking for them.  Explicit  
little beasts!  I fought with two ISRs and won last week.  However, I  
digress.

    Another fun couple of nets.  Now that the wood is in, the deck is  
sealed, and the roof is covered if not entirely repaired, I will work on  
the inside of the house.  Putting in the boxing trim around the rough  
framed windows will tighten up the place for winter.  I will crawl under  
the house and run two twenty amp lines to the front of the house and get  
the last bit of wiring done.  Then I get to close up those walls.  This  
will let me move the shack, the electronics, software, and robotics work  
area to the front of the house much closer to the wood stove.  It will be  
much more pleasant working up there and I'll be closer to the antennas too.
    Between nets I was seeking the tallest trees on this side of the  
property.  I found a few good ones which will hold the horizontal loop.   
It may take a few weeks to get all the parts up there but I am hoping for  
a two wavelength 160 meter loop.  Depending upon how high I can get it I  
will have a nice take off angle.  The best would be to raise or lower it  
to reach different spots.  But, I am dreaming.  A robotic antenna mount?   
Hmmm... it just may work ;)
