Scott,
That 'mystery' component is the 10 pF axial leaded capacitor that is to be
used in the frequency counter probe. If I recall, that envelope is labeled
'Frequency Probe Envelope' rather than RF Probe envelope (although it also
contains the parts for the RF Probe).
The small print is just something that we have to learn to contend with as
components shrink smaller and smaller in size - sorry, but that is just the
way things are - the component manufacturers make the judgement about how
large is large enough - many SMD capacitors are not marked at all, we must
either measure them or keep them in marked packaging until they are used -
so blame the 'state of the art'.
