Also Cary, don't forget to go into the menu (might be secondary menu) and
set D19 to Y to enable 60 meter band.

Subject: [Elecraft] 40 & 60 meters K2 #5266
Tom-
I hate to bother you again but I've encountered another glitch. After I
located the problem on 40 meters with your Cheap 'N Dirty Signal tracing
(very effective!), everything aligned perfectly on all bands.
This weekend, I installed the 60 meter and 160 meter mods and when I
powered up my K2 recognized both - that was the good news. The bad news is
I can hear no signals on 40 meters and only hiss on 60 but I am clueless as
to whether there are any signals on that 60 meter band since its so new (all
I hear is a loud hissing and the same on 40 meters).
I hooked up my DMM to R30 and get a steady 7.95 volts (a bit above the
7.5 max in the manual but within 10%...the voltage does not change whether I
am on 7000, 7300, 5300 or 5450....it doesn't budge - a steady 7.95 volts
I tried aligning L30 on transmit and can't get above .3 volts on the
power meter (that's "point 3" volts). Aligning L30 on receive is equally as
disappointing - the audio his doesn't vary in intensity at all.
On 160, my receive antennna (R ant) menu is on "off" so that's not an
issue. I hear signals on 160 and the voltages on alignment are 1.85 volts
at 1800 Mhz and 6.85 at 2000 Mhz. I'm fairly confident the 160 mod is not
the problem (but next time I'll install one mod at a time and align before
doing the next! But I did have to take the heat sink off to install both so
it made sense at the time).
I have checked J15 and I have continuity between pins 1 and 3 (that
replaced C-6 which was my original problem with being deaf on 40 meters).
At this point, I'm tempted to remove the 60 meter mode and replace some
RF Board components to put it back to the original state but I hate to throw
in the towel so easily.
Have you any ideas?

Cary, K4TM K2 #5266

Tom-
I just substituted a 5pF NPO from W4QE's "junk" box of parts and my K-2
now has ears...thanks again for all your help...tomorrow I'll work on the
receiver alignment...even without it my K-2 sure does sound good!!
Thanks again for all your help.
