It sounds something like the problem I had (and have
still not completely fixed as it got a bit worse when
I installed the new resistors per Builder Alert 22A).

Your's doesn't sound as bad.  The solution appears to
be changes in resistor values on the KSB2 to make the
ALC action more aggressive.  If you think this is the
same problem I can email you the suggestions I got
from Gary Surrency.
