Craig,
I had the same concern and another OM and I asked Wayne at a hamfest.  
Wayne said like Don said, not installing the transverter jacks is an 
option, but once I started it I found that adding the single coax cable 
took about 10 minutes.  I think the manual overstates the time 
required.
