There is a very low tech solution...but it might not work, simply
because humans would be involved.  The solution would be to use another list 
that is not as highly structured, isn't topicality bound and as such
may not have subscribers who would object to posts not within the rigid confines 
of topicality.

The list exists, has very low traffic, and is certainly open to new members
and posts.  Because its intention is not to replace or compete with any 
exisiting lists, it's simply another venue that isn't as rigid.

So, if you or others have a mind to continue the stupid threads, feel free to
